A Little Evening Ritual: Simple Botanical Skincare

When I think about skincare, I don’t think about a bathroom shelf overflowing with bottles. I think about a few thoughtfully chosen products, familiar botanical scents, and a little time to pause.

At the end of a busy day, that simple ritual can feel especially lovely. Not another task to tick off, but a few quiet minutes that belong to you.

And it doesn’t need to be complicated.

Let the day go

There is something satisfying about cleansing your face in the evening. Taking off your makeup, washing away the day, and beginning to wind down.

My Cleansing Balm is where I would start. Warm a little between your fingertips, then gently massage it over your face with slow, unhurried movements. Take a moment to breathe in the aroma of the essential oils, enjoying that familiar botanical scent as you begin to let the day go.

Soak a soft bamboo cloth in comfortably warm water and wring it out. Gently rest it against your skin for a moment, enjoying the warmth, then softly wipe away the balm. Rinse the cloth and repeat as needed, without rubbing or rushing.

It’s a simple ritual, but the combination of gentle massage, botanical aroma and a warm cloth makes cleansing feel like a little moment of care, rather than just taking your makeup off.

You don’t have to turn your bathroom into a spa. Sometimes, the simple act of putting your phone down and giving yourself a few uninterrupted minutes is enough.

A little oil, a slower moment

After cleansing, my Repair & Restore Night Oil makes a lovely next step.

Warm a little oil between your fingertips, then gently smooth it over your face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Let your hands move slowly, with a light, comfortable touch, taking a moment to enjoy the botanical aroma as you massage the oil into your skin.

If you have a little longer, this is a lovely moment to bring in your Gua Sha. Let it glide gently over your skin with the facial oil, using slow, light strokes over your cheeks and along your jawline. Nothing hurried, just a few quiet moments to enjoy the ritual.

There’s no need to turn it into another task. Whether you use your fingertips or enjoy a few moments with your Gua Sha, let this be a chance to slow down and give yourself a little care.

We often think about what a product adds to our skin. I think there is something to be said for what a routine lets us put down, too: the rushing, the distractions, and the feeling that we should still be doing something else.

Keep it simple

Not every evening needs a face mask, an exfoliator, or a whole collection of extra steps.

Those products have their place, but they don’t all need to be used at once. A simple routine gives each product a purpose, without making skincare feel like hard work.

And if your lips need a little attention, a touch of Nourishing Lip Balm is a lovely way to finish.

Make it yours

Some evenings, you may have time to linger. On others, you’ll simply cleanse your face and head to bed. Both are perfectly fine.

A ritual doesn’t have to be elaborate to be worthwhile, and it certainly doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.

For me, that is the beauty of simple botanical skincare: a few lovely products, used thoughtfully, and a small moment of care at the end of the day.

With love,
